Baxter County Jail


The Baxter County Jail & Detention Center is a medium-sized correctional facility located in the metropolitan area of Mountain Home in Baxter County, Arkansas. With 183 beds, the facility primarily houses pre-trial detainees and provides reintegration programs for male convicted felons.


Despite its prison functions, the center offers work opportunities to its inmates, with an average of 91 prisoners employed in various support services such as kitchen and laundry operations.


The facility is managed by a team of 20 staff members, who also oversee the operation of the Baxter County Work Leave Center (WFC), located nearby. Security measures at the center are minimal. On average, the facility sees a monthly total of 247 bookings.

 

Visitation rules

At the Baxter County Jail & Detention Center, inmates are permitted to have two 45-minute video visits per week. These visits must be scheduled ahead of time, and are available between 8:15am to 4pm on Tuesdays through Sundays. It should be noted that if either the prisoner or guest fails to comply with the rules, the visits may be restricted.

Overview of Baxter County

Baxter County is a county situated in the northern part of Arkansas, sharing its border with Missouri. It was established on March 24, 1873, and named after Elisha Baxter, the then Governor of Arkansas. The county’s population was recorded as 41,627 during the 2020 census, and its county seat is Mountain Home.


The Mountain Home, AR, Micropolitan Statistical Area covers the entire Baxter County. The region is known as the Twin Lakes Area, as it is surrounded by two

of Arkansas’ largest lakes, Bull Shoals Lake and Norfork Lake. The southern border of the county comprises the White River, Norfork Tailwater, and the Buffalo

National River.


Mountain Home, a small town in the county, dates back to the early 19th century and is located on a plateau in the Ozark Mountains. The area’s natural environment, including nearby Norfork and Bull Shoals lakes and the surrounding countryside, has attracted tourists from all over the United States for many years.


Additionally, educational institutions have contributed to the life of the community. The 19th Arkansas General Assembly created Baxter County by carving parts of Fulton, Izard, Marion, and Searcy counties. Mountain Home was initially designated as the temporary county seat, which later became the permanent
